Through a wide range of approaches I have been exploring the way in which ‘we’ interact in various environments specifically through the use of technology. Ranging from architecture and installations to educational CD-ROMS and websites.
I have had the opportunity to work on a whole variety of projects ranging from product, brand launches and online applications for companies such as Ford and Canon to mini sites for Zandra Rhodes and the Fashion and Textiles Museum.
Supporting this interest I am able to use my skills of traditional photography, animation (drawn), graphic design, 3D, Cinema, film, and theatre. I am influenced by the environment, in the broadest sense, from the land, sea and air, to the people and ideologies that are all around me. These influences have lead me to have several different interests and strands of thoughts and ideas that both feed into and form my work, but also different abilities of output, something that influences me in my approach to creating a response to briefs.
I have also found that thought process is key: I find that my ideas are generated through a conceptual thought process, and the struggle between what is often an open conceptual framework and the need, or want, for a tangible purpose is a dilemma that I look for and enjoy trying to solve.
I enjoy bringing all these interests and influences together in the creation of new work, be it conceptual solutions to communications within a community, the way we may move around a physical space, or the way we move in a virtual space.
Stop, Look, Listen | Freedom | Personification
An animation created through the exploration of an inanimate object and giving animalistic qualities.
In the screenshots here we see a set of keys fall into a drain and then clumsily turn into a spider and move off.
A series of four images exploring the theme of freedom and the alienation that people feel in such a large city, and the freedom that
can be expressed through moments of intimacy in a crowd.
In an increasingly noisy planet sounds are becoming less distinguishable, people are no longer able to listen. Using sound more effectively to highlight and map spaces can enable people to better notice what is around them and to see new things. Through the controlling of sound in a space it can control how people respond to a space or how people
work in a space.
The sounds in the room attempted to map a physical space, but in doing so, they removed the visual physicality of that space and encouraged us to use our cognitive skills to see the space.
Sound, or the acoustic ambience of a space, can tell us what type of environment we are in, for example, how bright it is, if the ceiling is low or high or if it is multi-faceted. Sound can be used to a powerful effect. What happens if sound is used in new ways, instead of the bleeps and blips to indicate a new email arriving at your computer? What if it could not only inform you of a new email, but give additional information, what if sound could be utilised to give us a better lifestyle?
Ranger Ford | WSA: Fashion gets textile | Canon Europe | Blacklands Primary School Website
The aim, to design an alternative website for a primary school, something that would be fresh to an educational audience, and also to be based around the notion of ‘learning through play’.
The P.E. school bag is a common theme that everyone remembers from school. The navigation is based around the P.E. school bag and a line; by dragging the bag below line it opens a window for
the relevant section.
